You can find us in Rīga’s Old Town, in a building associated with a well known 20th century Latvian painter, Niklāvs Strunke. This inspired us to name our restaurant NIKLĀVS and to include in the decor not only Niklāvs Strunkes paintings but also those of other Latvian artists of the modernist era, giving our guests the opportunity to enjoy both good food and good art. Our chefs are also inspired by the closeness of these works of art and even simple Latvian dishes are prepared creatively. Latvian traditional dishes represent our cultural values and, for this reason, their preparation gives us particular enjoyment. Sorrel soup from the „Zemgale” region, black pudding with groats and grey peas have become Niklāvs restaurant’s signature dishes. Head Chef, Sarmīte Neimane, uses seasonal Latvian grown farmers’ produce and wild foods she has collected herself, such as morel mushrooms, wild sorrel, chantrelle mushrooms, bilberries and other berries. We also invite you to try our classical European dishes as well as our Head Chef’s specials – a selection of 4 dishes which feature products particularly associated with the current month. |
